Ski & Splitboard Touring

Backcountry ski and splitboard touring in Central Asia — Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and beyond.

Upcoming Adventures

Ski and splitboard touring in Central Asia means moving through mountain systems that most visiting skiers never reach. No lifts, no groomed runs, no resort infrastructure — just elevation, untracked terrain, and the people who have lived and worked in these ranges for generations.

We run small groups, move at the pace the mountain allows, and stay in locally-run basecamps rather than imported comfort. The cultural experience is not a side note — sharing a yurt camp with the families who operate it in winter, eating what they eat, moving through landscapes that are genuinely theirs, is part of what makes these trips different from a powder-hunting holiday in a more accessible range.

Conditions are serious and we treat them seriously. Some trips are fully guided; others suit experienced tourers who want a knowledgeable local partner rather than a leader. BORAN — the Turkic word for the force of winter itself — is the name we give this. It describes the terrain honestly.

Who Is This For

tunduk snow trips (BORAN) are for skiers and splitboarders who are comfortable in avalanche terrain, confident with touring equipment, and looking for something beyond groomed routes and lift queues.

You don’t need expedition experience — but you do need to be honest about your fitness, your technical level, and your tolerance for genuine uncertainty. These are remote environments. Weather windows matter. Plans adapt.

If you’re looking for guaranteed powder and Instagram conditions, this is probably not your trip. If you’re looking for real terrain, real winter, and a small group that moves well together — it might be exactly right.

BORAN

The terrain

The ranges of Central Asia hold some of the most extensive untracked ski terrain in the northern hemisphere. No lifts, no marked runs, no crowds — just elevation, aspect, and snow that hasn’t been touched.

The base

We operate from established basecamps with local infrastructure — yurt camps and mountain huts built with and by the people who live and work in these mountains year-round. Not glamping. Functional, warm, and genuinely local.

The season

Peak season runs December through March in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, with significant variation by elevation and aspect. We time departures around historical snow windows — and we’re respecting the conditions which nature provides to us.
