We live 100% outside during the trekking. A wonderful experience but with bad weather it can be hard.
Most of the time we are in the saddle, some steep or dangerous stretches we walk next to our horses. We will be most of the time between 2000 and 4000m a.b.s.l.
During the whole trekking we sleep in our tents. This area of Kyrgyzstan is very wild, cold nights or unexpected snowfall can always be the case.
For intermediate to experienced horse riders. Although we move pretty slow the terrain is challenging. Not for people who scared off riding on narrow, steep tracks.
This trip takes place for the first time! Expedition style trekking: Flexibility is necessary of the participants.
Day 1: Flying to Bishkek.
Day 2: Arriving at the airport and transfer to the city, Karakol. We’ll spend our 1st night already in cosy 2 people yurts.
Day 3: Preparing for our trekking ( buying food, visiting the city,…) in the afternoon we travel to the mountain village, Jergalan, sleeping in yurts.
Day 4 : Very scenic drive from Jergalan village to Enilchek ( former Sovjet mining town) – Sleeping in guesthouse.
Day 5- 11: 7 Days of horse trekking at it’s best, we spend 5 to 8 hours in the saddle, we cross over high mountain passes. This 7 days include 1 bad weather day. We’ll finish the trip with a visit to the nearby natural hotsprings, by horse!! We’ll sleep all nights in our tents.
( In case we finish our trekking very smooth and in 1 day less then planned, we’ll have a day ride without luggage with some lovely gallop stretches for those who want)
Day 12: Transport back to Karakol ( 6 hour drive), sleeping in Yurts.
Day 13: Transfer along the south side of the big Issyk Kul lake, 3.5hrs. The driveway to our yurt camp for this eve, is the famous Ak say canyon. Possible to hike around with us to visit the canyon or just relax at the beach.
Day 14: Last stretch of driving to the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek. We’ll have an afternoon time to visit the city center, buy some souvenirs or get a 5$ haircut. We’ll finish off the trip with a traditional dinner and some drinks for those who want. We’ll sleep in a comfortabel modern hotel ( twin rooms).
Day 15: Transfer to the airport.
Traveling Kyrgyzstan in the most authentic way. Even the locals agree on this! If you know how to deal with horses, you will enjoy the freedom riding through wide landscapes with little to no baggage, and be impressed of the horses’ confidence in difficult terrain.
Not much more to do than caring for our horses and ourselves, and making some progress along the route. Sounds not much. Yet in the end always enough to be tired in the evening.
From meandering rivers in open valleys to wild waters in narrow gorges. From rocky mountain peaks to mellow pasture lands. From dense forests to sparse highlands.
