Day by day

The itinerary.

Day 1 – Arrival

Flight: EU → Istanbul → Bishkek (Manas International Airport)
Overnight flight to Kyrgyzstan.

Day 2 – Welcome to Kyrgyzstan

Arrival: Early morning in Bishkek
You will be greeted by your guide and our driver and travel through the picturesque countryside to Karakol (approx. 6 hours). After arrival, you will have time to rest and explore the city.

Accommodation: Cozy yurt or guesthouse

Day 3 – Start of the Jeep Adventure

Today we begin our off-road jeep tour into the wild Enilchek region.

Our local driver knows every corner of the area – we can stop at any time for photos or short hikes.

Note: From today onwards, we will have no cell phone reception for a few days.

We will spend the night in Enilchek, a fascinating, semi-abandoned mining town. Once home to 3,000 people, only about 10 families live here today – a photographer’s dream!

Accommodation: Local private accommodation

Day 4 – Kaindy Valley

We’ll take a day trip to the breathtaking Kaindy Valley (1.5-hour drive).

This remote valley is rarely visited by tourists and offers an authentic glimpse into the lives of the mountain herders.

Explore at your leisure.

Accommodation: Shepherd’s cottage (no running water, basic toilet)

Day 5 – Discover & Relax

Optional morning horseback riding or hiking – many scenic options await!

In the afternoon, we’ll drive back to Enilchek and stop at the natural hot springs for a soak (if it’s not too hot!).

In the evening, we’ll join the locals for a friendly game of football or table tennis.
Accommodation: Local private accommodation (shared bathroom)

Day 6 – To the Saryjaz Valley

Today’s drive takes us over mountain passes with breathtaking views – glaciers and 5,000–7,000 m high peaks all around.

We’ll make short stops for hiking and photos.

Accommodation:

Option 1: Karkyra Base Camp

Option 2: Camping in the valley (more scenic, less comfortable – but highly recommended!)

Day 7 – Return to civilization

Jeep ride back to Barskoon (approx. 4 hours).

You can swim in Lake Issyk-Kul or stop in picturesque valleys for a picnic or a short hike.

You’ll meet your horseman, Joldosh, whose family runs the guesthouse where we’ll be staying tonight.

You can also leave any extra luggage here before the hike.

Accommodation: Guesthouse (shared bathroom)

Days 8–12 – 5-Day Trekking Expedition

Experience five unforgettable days of trekking through pristine valleys and alpine landscapes.

Luggage: Carried by packhorses
Options include riding only, a “hike and ride” option, or hiking only. Each participant will be assigned to one horse.

Camping: By rivers and lakes under a starry sky

Along the way, we’ll meet local herders, see yaks, and sample Kumiz (fermented mare’s milk).

Your guide, and the horse team will ensure your safety and well-being.

The weather can change quickly – sunny mornings with possible afternoon showers, or even snow in summer!

Distance: 10 km / +790 m

Food & Accommodation.

Food

In the outdoors, we cook our meals together. The rest of the time, we eat at restaurants and get to know the local cuisine. If you like you can see how the host family prepares the food or even pitch in yourself.

Accommodation

1x hotel 1x yurt 4x guesthouse 4x tent Accommodation is chosen for logistics and access — proximity to terrain, functionality, and what is genuinely available in remote areas. Comfort is secondary. We may stay with local families and sleep as they do, which can mean on the floor with traditional bedding. This is part of the experience, not a compromise. As guesthouses we choose simple but characterful places when available, or the best option the location offers. In cities we typically stay in hostels or small guesthouses, and sometimes a night in hotels.

All participants are required to read the tunduk Emergency Concept before departure. It covers prevention, decision-making in the field, and emergency procedures.

We carry a Garmin inReach satellite communicator on all trips for emergency communication in areas without mobile coverage.

Many tunduk destinations are genuinely remote. Organised rescue services may be minimal, slow, or non-existent. Participants must be aware that self-rescue is a real possibility and should be prepared accordingly. Basic first aid knowledge is expected of all participants.

Insurance is the responsibility of each participant. Coverage must include health (illness and accident), rescue and evacuation in the destination country, and repatriation. We may ask for proof of insurance prior to departure.

Travel insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended. It should cover trip cancellation, lost equipment, and any activity-specific risks relevant to the trip.
