An 11-day horse trek is a true immersion into the remote landscapes of Kyrgyzstan. Traveling on horseback for a longer time allows you to reach isolated valleys, high mountain passes, alpine lakes, and nomadic camps far from the roads. Days are spent riding through changing scenery. It is both an adventure and a slow journey through the natural and cultural heart of Kyrgyzstan.
This trip has less challenging terrain as our trekkings around Enilchek.
Therefor available for all level riders.
A mix of hiking and riding is also possible on this trip.
Traveling Kyrgyzstan in the most authentic way. Even the locals agree on this! If you know how to deal with horses, you will enjoy the freedom riding through wide landscapes with little to no baggage, and be impressed of the horses’ confidence in difficult terrain.
Not much more to do than caring for our horses and ourselves, and making some progress along the route. Sounds not much. Yet in the end always enough to be tired in the evening.
From meandering rivers in open valleys to wild waters in narrow gorges. From rocky mountain peaks to mellow pasture lands.
Adventurous active travelers/riders, interested in spending 11 days away in the outback, without cellphone reception and modern luxury. Suitable for beginner to expert riders. Experience with camping, spending multiple days in nature is necessary.
This trip is not for horse riders looking for fast riding, Also not for people who can’t imagen sleeping in tents for 10 nights in a row, or have no experience in spending more than 1 day in nature.
Day 1. Flight
Individual flight to Bishkek
Day 2. Arrival
You’ll arrive early morning in Bishkek, we’ll drive another 5 hours to our guesthouse, and basecamp for this trek. Possible to go to the beach for a swim. But besides that, we’ll keep it calm and prepare for the big trek.
Day 3 – 13
We’ll be on a 11 day trek without any backup, phone reception from here on. It is possible to ride your horse, but feel free to hike also now and then. Slowly we will travel through the big landscapes. We’ll cross a few passes, valleys, the real summer shepherds land. We’ll also cross the famous Söök Pass.
The Söök Pass, with an elevation of 4,028m, is the third highest pass in Kyrgyzstan and a historically significant point on the ancient Silk Road. Once connecting Lake Issyk-Kul with China, it is now an important route to the southeastern mountains of Kyrgyzstan and border crossings. The name, meaning “Leg Pass,” sadly serves as a reminder of the tragic Urkun event of 1916, in which many Kyrgyz people perished while fleeing Russian troops.
We’ll finish of the tour on the Ara Bel Plateau, a 38oom high plateau, accessing the famous Kumtor gold mine.
Some areas have a jeep track connection, in case something goes really wrong we will not be 6+ days riding from a rescue vehicle.
Day 14 – Transfer to Bishkek
Today our driver brings us to Bishkek. After a 5 hour driver, we’ll have some time in a modern, different world. We’ll go out for a lovely local goodbye dinner. We’ll be staying in a comfortable hotel.
Day 15 – Flying home
A 30 min drive get’s us to the airport. Time to say goodbye!
We’ll be 11 days non stop out in nature. We can encounter lovely summer weather but also thunderstorm, hail, rain, wind.
As we’ll be mostly sleeping in tents, the comfort is basic. Luckily we do not need to carry any gear, our horses help us with that.
We’ll be traveling on high altitude but at low intensity. We’ll be riding or hiking.
No advanced horse riding skills necessary on this trip. We’ll be traveling in walking pace. This trip is also suitable for fit hikers.
A detailed pack list will be provided.
The following equipment can be rented from us.
